This week I had an IEP (individual education plan) for Boyd. He is being released from the special education program! He met all of his goals and "passed" the tests- before this year he was behind in language communication mostly, so now he is at or above grade level in all areas. His speech therapy teacher said he is doing everything he should be and no longer needs to see her. The behavioral therapist observed Boyd during class and recess a few times and said he interacts with the other kids well and just fits right in. His teacher said he now participates in class, answers questions, always finishes his work, and he is reading like a champ! The only weird thing he does is still grabs at her shirt buttons or necklace and her hands. So, we'll try to work on that.
Seriously, I couldn't be more proud of this kid!
He wrote a funny story in school: Once there were a pet dinosaur. He loves to chew parts of houses. We said stop chewing houses! Then he chased us. So we killed him. The end.

Cami, that's awesome!! Congrats!! I've worked with a lot of kids with autism and asperger's as a teacher, and this kind of progress is phenomenal! You really do have one special boy there :) Love reading the updates, and glad you guys are spending so much time outside--the weather is great!!
ReplyDeleteBOYD! I love and adore you. You're the best kid.
